Simona participated as an actress in Transit directed by Marcelo Díaz and produced by La Cuarta Pared and ETC in Madrid.

Transit is performed by seven actors from seven different countries, and each actor speaks in his or her language(s) of origin.

Video

The piece was premiered in February 2011 in the Festival Festival Escena Contemporánea in Madrid and performed in March in La Cuarta Pared. It was created within the context of the research programme ETC – Espacio Teatro Contemporáneo in La Cuarta Pared.

Soniris was created with the support of Bilbaoeszena, Nexoteatro and Teleskopika in Bilbao, and of the Centro Danza Canal, in Madrid . It is part of the Circuito de danza SAREA 2011, in the Basque Country.

Soniris is an interdisciplinary project stimulated by the desire to use choreography, sound and video to explore stillness, silence and void, and to contrast these dynamics with their opposites: frenzy, noise and chaos.

The project is principally inspired by dynamics observed in nature, including those detected in some animal species. Soniris offers a space in which instincts and impulses can be let loose, as well as the fears the latter may provoke. It is built on the identification of those human behaviours that are related to our essential intuition, those that have not been learnt socially.

Finally, Soniris is an attempt to experience a different temporality than the one related to the usual speeds of daily life. It is also a reflection on the passing of time, our way of using it, and the subjectivity of our relation to it.

MIMESIS

A Dance, Video and Sound Creation

On Similarities in Family Movements

Mimesis is based on the exploration of different generations of a family in search of similarities of physical traits, movements and personalities.

The piece explores how the body-document integrates family transmissions that are visible or invisible, conscious or unconscious, chosen or simply accepted.

In collaboration with the sound artist Younes Baba-ali, combinations are recreated based on the body’s memory, interviews, and video and audio recordings. It is a way of representing the genetic and social composition that we are or chose to be.

Mimesis was created within the context of two residency programmes:Artistas en Residencia 2009, organized by La Casa Encendida in Madrid in collaboration with the University of Alcalá de Henares and Tanzplan Potsdam: Artists-in-Residence, in Fabrik Potsdam, in Germany.

Performances: October 2009: Festival En Tránsito, in the Casa Encendida in Madrid and Festival Herbstleuchten in Fabrik Potsdam, in Potsdam, Germany.

BOYFRIEND - Work in Progress

Boyfriend is a piece created by Valeria Alonso that combines theatre with dance and video. Five women move around in a typical Reality Show atmosphere, with the aim and hope to win the one and only Boyfriend. The piece humorously questions the relationships between men and women, their seduction habits and skills, the ways in which they communicate with each other, and the general present day established images related to love.

OSARIO

Winner of the first prize of Madrid’s Choreography Contest in 2006. (Certamen coreográfico de Madrid).

Osario (“Ossuary” in English) is a dance duo created by Valeria Alonso, inspired by sensations and texts from Clarissa Pinkola Estés’s book Women Who Run With the Wolves. Two women enter their own ossuary, the area of their inner world where the bones of their intuition lay and where their instinct comes alive. The choreography establises a dialog between the instinctive nature of women and aspects of their contemporary life.

Lugo and Orense 2006 – 2007: Auditorio Gustavo Freire, Teatro Principal.

Simona collaborated in Osario as a dance performer.

SOLO PARA NOEL

Directed by: Valeria Alonso

Solo para Noel is a play created by Valeria Alonso, which combines theatre with dance and video. It tells the story of a rather strange family who happens to be spending Christmas Eve in a five-star hotel room: the Father – a megalomaniac president, the Mother – a dramatic movie star, and the Daughter, “Kimberly” – who is witness as well as accomplice to her parents’ extravagances and madness. The piece questions lies and the consequences those have on our identity.
